The “All Rise" Advocate Gala is our organization’s first step toward raising awareness and monies to support the development of resiliency program opportunities for our service providers in the legal field.
Do you know of any nonprofit or system-based crime victim advocacy organizations that have put in place practices, policies, and procedures to support and enhance employee well-being?
If yes, please nominate them for the 2024 Trauma Stewardship Award. The ATIR Community will select one (1) non profit and one (1) systems based crime victim advocacy program to receive this prestigious award and recognition at our 2024 Inaugural “All Rise” Advocate Gala on December 6th at the Porsche Experience Atlanta!
Applications for nominations will close on November 1st, 2024!
Trauma Resilient Organizations
Vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, burnout and stress in our legal systems remain well above pre-pandemic levels.
Establishing trauma resilient work environments can protect mental health and promote the general wellbeing of employees. Workplace wellbeing awareness and implemented practices allow employees to be in the best position possible to support the mental health and wellbeing of self and those they serve.
What is Trauma Stewardship?
Trauma stewardship is being fully present with others, their pain, trauma, and suffering without taking it on as our own. It is a long-term approach to tending to our own wholeness so we can be helpful to others in our full integrity.
According to the Office of Victims of Crime (OVC), “ Vicarious trauma is an occupational challenge for people working and volunteering in the fields of victim services, law enforcement, emergency medical services, fire services, and other allied professions, due to their continuous exposure to victims of trauma and violence. This work-related trauma exposure can occur from such experiences as listening to individual clients recount their victimization; looking at videos of exploited children; reviewing case files; hearing about or responding to the aftermath of violence and other traumatic events day after day; and responding to mass violence incidents that have resulted in numerous injuries and deaths.” https://ovc.ojp.gov/program/vtt/what-is-vicarious-trauma
We envision a world where self-care and stress management are not only talked about but incorporated in our work and our day-to-day lives. The ATIR Community’s mission is to increase the overall mental and physical wellbeing of our communities.
We are so excited to have you and so many others join us on our mission to “care for the caregivers.” Click here to learn more about the role of victim advocates and why we need to protect the wellbeing of this community. https://ovc.ojp.gov/sites/g/files/xyckuh226/files/model-standards/6/mission_statement.html
